Über den Autor Henry David Thoreau

Henry David Thoreau, geboren 1817 in Concord, Massachusetts, verließ die Heimatstadt nur für seinen Studienaufenthalt an der Harvard University von 1833 bis 1837. Nach einigen Jahren Tätigkeit als Lehrer und als Privatsekretär Ralph Waldo Emersons bezog er 1845 eine selbstgebaute Blockhütte am Waldensee, in der er ¿Walden oder Leben in den Wäldern¿ schrieb. Er engagierte sich bis zu seinem Tod gegen die Sklaverei. Thoreau starb 1862 an Tuberkulose.
